How to; BMW R1300GS Cansmart aansluiten

1. Locate your bike's battery and the connection for the alarm (XDWA).

Tools needed:

  1. 10mm wrench or socket wrench
  2. Torx T40 (optional)


To install the CanSmart, remove the driver and passenger seats. If your bike has heated seats, disconnect the seat heater connections under both the driver and passenger seats.

The Cansmart for the R1300GS must be connected to the motorcycle battery and to the (XDWA) connector.

The only tools required are a 10mm wrench or socket wrench to loosen the battery bolts.

There are two locations for the XDWA connector.

If your motorcycle is equipped with the optional alarm: the XDWA connector is located at the alarm under the pillion seat - as shown.

With optional alarm fitted
If your motorcycle is not equipped with the optional alarm: the XDWA connection is located under the pillion seat - as shown.

2. Connect the Cansmart to the CAN-BUS.

To remove the OE XDWA connector, pull the white tab away from the connector, then press the tab to release the locking mechanism.

 3. Connecting the Battery cables from the Cansmart

 Connecting the Cansmart to the battery is easy.

Disconnect the battery cables. ALWAYS disconnect the negative cable first and reconnect it last. This way you will avoid possible short circuits if a tool connected to the positive terminal touches the metal frame of the motorcycle.

Connect the battery cable from the Cansmart, reconnect the battery terminals in reverse order (positive terminal first, followed by the negative terminal).

The Cansmart's LED should be solid green for about a minute before the Cansmart goes into sleep mode and the green LED turns off.

Routing the wires and finding a suitable location for your Cansmart depends on several factors and your preference. Make sure the wires are routed securely so they don't chafe or pinch over time. If necessary, secure them with cable ties.

Suggested locations for your Cansmart are shown in the images above (tucked into a side panel) or below for easier access.
